ORLANDO – The Florida A&M University (FAMU) College of Law announces its new Writing Center, a support hub to enhance students’ legal writing proficiency. Led by Director Teresa Mule, the Center is a collaborative space where students can refine their writing skills, receive feedback on assignments, and access resources that will serve them throughout law school and into their professional careers.
Located at the FAMU College of Law in Orlando, Florida, the Writing Center provides drop-in assistance from Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with options for one-on-one appointments with Director Mule for more in-depth support. This flexible schedule caters to the varied needs of students, whether they are looking for quick guidance or targeted help with complex writing tasks.
The Writing Center’s mission goes beyond legal writing. It also supports students in developing the foundational skills necessary to communicate effectively across various contexts.
“Writing skills are critical in law but also extend into every field of professional communication,” Mule explains. “Our goal is to empower students to be articulate, persuasive writers who can convey their ideas clearly, whether they’re drafting legal briefs or other forms of professional writing.”
Associate provost and interim dean for the College of Law, Cecil Howard, J.D., is thrilled by the student engagement the Writing Center has fostered.
“Seeing our students actively engage with the Writing Center is incredibly rewarding. It’s a vital resource that strengthens their skills, builds confidence, and prepares them for the demands of the legal profession,” says Howard. “I couldn’t be more pleased with their dedication to excellence and the opportunities they’re seizing to enhance their future careers.”
According to Mule, the Center is a safe, encouraging environment where students are free to address their challenges openly. First-year law student Andrew Nokhodchi has already found the Writing Center a valuable resource as he adjusts to the rigors of law school.
“You have to be the one outside of class to seek additional help and reinforce your knowledge, and the Writing Center is a great step so far in doing so,” says Nokhodchi.
Through its range of services and resources, the Writing Center is poised to become a cornerstone of the academic experience at the FAMU College of Law.
