Recent FAMU Graduate Steps Into Postdoctoral Fellowship at Global Healthcare Giant Johnson & Johnson
Florida A&M University’s College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Institute of Public Health (CoPPS, IPH) celebrates a significant milestone as Kwame Adjei, Ph.D., a 2025 doctoral graduate from the Economic, Social, and Administrative Pharmacy (ESAP) Division, heads to Johnson & Johnson for a prestigious postdoctoral fellowship.

As I step into this new chapter of my life, I carry the legacy of FAMU’s excellence and the unwavering belief that future scholars—especially those from varied backgrounds—can dream boldly, break barriers, and know they belong at the forefront of innovation," he said.
Adjei, originally from Ghana and a PharmD graduate of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, began his doctoral studies remotely in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic before transitioning to in-person research in Tallahassee in 2021. Over the past four years, his work has centered on health economics and policy—most notably a dissertation evaluating the cost-effectiveness and Real Option Value (ROV) of treatments for advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC). His findings underscored the importance of incorporating dynamic value assessment frameworks in oncology decision-making.
Throughout his Ph.D., Adjei distinguished himself through leadership in The Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research’s student network, internships at healthcare organizations EMD Serono and global, research-based biopharmaceutical company AbbVie, and collaborations with clinicians and data scientists on publications in high-impact journals. His work spans topics such as mental health, antidepressant use, and glaucoma treatment.
Now, as he prepares to join Johnson & Johnson—a global leader in healthcare innovation—Adjei’s transition represents not just a personal achievement but also a proud moment for FAMU CoPPS, IPH. His appointment to this fellowship marks a strong endorsement of the program’s commitment to global impact, policy-relevant research, and training the next generation of pharmaceutical leaders.
Adjei’s leap to Johnson & Johnson is a plume in FAMU’s cap—and a clear signal of what’s possible with focused, globally minded scholarship.
