FAMU PRSSA Presents a Career-Boosting Series for Aspiring PR Pros

Tallahassee, Fla. - The FAMU Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) is hosting a “PRoud FAMUly” themed PR Week event from March 25-28. This year’s event will bring students together to grow, learn and connect. With discussions, networking and hands-on activities, they’ll gain fundamental insights into the PR industry while building relationships with peers and professionals.

“We are excited about the opportunities to build meaningful relationships with outstanding PR professionals and bring their expertise to our FAMU PRSSA community to expand our students’ horizons and help them prepare for a future career in public relations,” said FAMU PRSSA Faculty Advisor, Hsuan Huang, PhD.

PR Week Details

PR Week opened on Tuesday, March 26, featuring a “Preparing for the Workforce” panel discussion at 2:00 p.m. in the Lecture Hall. Industry leaders from renowned public relations agencies, including Drew Piers, partner and managing director of Sachs Media, and Heidi Otway, president and partner of SalterMitchell PR, will share career advice, discuss hiring trends, and conduct a live mock interview to help students prepare for the job market.

On Wednesday, March 27, a “Maximizing Your PR Resources” session will occur at 12:20 p.m. in Room 2073. This workshop will educate students on utilizing PRSSA to find job opportunities, network, and stay updated on industry trends featuring Betty Grable, Ph.D., and alum guest speaker Eric Winkfield.

On Thursday, March 28, FAMU’s Chief Marketing and Communications Officer Alonda Thomas, Ph.D., will lead an open forum discussion at 2:00 p.m. in the Lecture Hall. Students will engage in conversations about career opportunities within PR and gain insights from Thomas’ extensive industry experience.

PR Week will conclude on Friday, March 29, with “Continuing the Conversation: Social Media & Mental Health” at 5:00 p.m. in Studio B. Hosted by Christina Compere Minor, this podcast-style discussion will feature CEO of the Social Media Research Institute Jonathan N. Bertrand, as he explores the impact of social media on branding, mental health, and ethical PR strategies.
