FAMU’s 1887 Strikes: Day of Giving Rallies Philanthropy with “Boots on the Ground”

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida A&M University (FAMU) has officially launched its annual 1887 Strikes: Day of Giving, April 3–4, 2025, with a powerful call to action: “Boots on the Ground.” The good cause started on Thursday, April 3 at 9 a.m. and will continue fundraising for 1,887 minutes in recognition of the University’s founding year of 1887.

“This year’s theme, ‘Boots on the Ground,’ focuses on mobilizing the Rattler community to make a bold impact in support of our students, academia and athletics. It also reflects our commitment to taking action, standing in the gap for our students, and building a stronger future—together,” said Vice President of Institutional Advancement Anthony Neal, Ph.D.

The 48-hour giving event encourages alumni, students, faculty, and friends to step up, show out, and give back. And, in true FAMU fashion, the University is combining philanthropy with celebration, culminating in a spirited Rattler Rodeo on Friday, April 4—bringing cowboy hats, Southern flair, and Rattler pride to The Hill. The good time is scheduled from 1-3 p.m. at “The Set” on FAMU’s main campus with DJ HD305 on the turntables.

“We want to thank our supporters in true Rattler style. Every dollar raised helps strengthen scholarships, enhance research and public health initiatives, fund faculty development, and provide students with hands-on clinical experiences. The Rattler Rodeo is our way of saying, ‘We see you, we appreciate you, and we’re proud to ride with you,’” said Brandi Tatum-Fedrick, Ed.D., assistant vice president of Annual/Affinity Giving and University Engagement/Alumni Affairs.

Throughout the Day of Giving, the University will share live updates, student testimonials, and donor shout-outs across social media using the hashtag #1887Strikes. Donors are encouraged to share their stories, tag fellow alumni, and help spread the word. Day of Giving will officially conclude at 4:27 p.m. on Friday, April 4, but that does not mean the giving has to stop. FAMU encourages giving back 24/7 and 365.
