Florida A&M University Celebrates 'Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day'

Tallahassee, FL – April 30, 2025 – Florida A&M University (FAMU) proudly participated in the annual “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day” on Thursday, April 24, 2025, embracing this year’s theme, “For A New Generation.”

“Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day” is a national initiative that allows children to shadow their parents and become acquainted with the workplace environment through their guidance, stated Rebecca Brown, CFO/senior vice president for Finance and Administration. “Florida A&M University is always happy to sponsor this initiative as it also provides a valuable opportunity to expose the younger generation to a deeper view of higher education and how it is administered.”

This year’s event welcomed students in grades 3-8, allowing them to experience a day in the life of a Rattler. Each child received an official “Rattler for the Day” photo ID badge, a special keepsake marking their participation. The excitement continued as participants received FAMU Swag Bags, generously donated by Business & Auxiliary Services, the University Bookstore, the FAMU Business Center, and the Housing Department.

One enthusiastic participant, Sophia, the 10-year-old daughter of Rica Calhoun, chief compliance and ethics officer, shared her excitement. “Being a Rattler for a day was a lot of fun! I got to see how compliance and ethics helps everyone follow the rules and feel included,” said Sophia. “My favorite part, though, was definitely the ice cream and waffles at the Cafe."

To further immerse students in FAMU’s vibrant campus life, attendees enjoyed a scenic tour aboard the Venom Express Shuttle, offering a firsthand glimpse into the university experience. The event was a resounding success, inspiring future Rattlers and creating lasting memories for both students and parents.

Bridget Roberts, coordinator of training at FAMU, shared that the event left a lasting impression on her 14-year old daughter, Aminah.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity my daughter had to experience a positive and welcoming work environment,” Roberts said. “It was inspiring for her to see what a supportive workplace looks like.”
