Guidance on Federal Funding Developments

Dear FAMU Community,

Since January 20, the federal government has issued several Presidential Executive Orders and guidance notices that could have implications for Florida A&M University. Our leadership team is actively engaged in monitoring, assessing, and complying with changes in federal policies and regulations. We are in communication with our federal partners to ensure that we adhere to all required actions. Currently, Title IV programs, including federal student loans, Pell Grants, the Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG), and work-study funding, are not impacted and will continue without interruption.

Additional updates to be aware of include the following:

Research Funding: The Office of Research will continue to receive guidance from the various funding agencies (specifically, those awards from NASA, NSF, and USAID) managing each grant. During this period of uncertainty, we cannot be sure if or when federal funds will cover any new grant expenditures. We therefore ask all members of our research community to avoid, or at most significantly limit, non-personnel expenditures. All principal investigators are asked to forward any letters received from funding agencies to Dr. Charles Weatherford at Charles.Weatheford@FAMU.edu

International students and international scholars, including H-1B holders: Please keep copies of your official immigration documents with you at all times, such as Form I-20, Form DS-2019, H-1B approval, visa, and passport. You can find more detailed information on our website. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Office of International Education and Development at 850-599-3295.

Federal authorities on campus: The Department of Campus Safety and Security will work with local and federal authorities, per normal as contacted.

Federal Financial Aid: According to the Department of Education, Title IV programs, including federal student loans, Pell Grants, the Federal Supplemental Education Opportunity Grant (SEOG), and work-study funding, are not impacted and will continue without interruption. Please continue to manage your accounts responsibly and keep an eye on the news for any future developments. We will continue monitoring this situation and keep you updated.

ERCCD and FAMU DRS: The supplemental childcare funding for the Educational Research Center for Child Development and the FAMU Developmental Research School has not been impacted.

Florida A&M University remains committed to our core mission of student success for all students regardless of race, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, disability, political affiliation, or religion.

We will continue to uphold its mission to enhance the lives of its constituents and empower the community through innovative teaching, research, scholarship, partnerships, and public service.

Sincerely,

Timothy L. Beard, Ph.D.
Interim President
