Dear FAMU Community,
I’m pleased to provide you with an update regarding our Presidential Search. As you know, Florida A&M University (FAMU) officially launched the search process in December. Presidential Search Committee Chair Deveron Gibbons presented an update at our Board of Trustees meeting on February 13, and thanks to his leadership, the search for the 13th president of FAMU is progressing.
Over the past several weeks, a series of listening sessions were held with campus stakeholders. FAMU students, faculty, staff and alumni participated in virtual and in-person meetings to provide feedback on the qualifications needed for FAMU’s next president. If you weren’t able to attend, we welcome your feedback through the stakeholder input form.
“We appreciate the enthusiasm and valuable input from our community members who shared their thoughts on what characteristics, experience, and traits are needed in the next leader of Florida A&M University,” says Trustee Deveron Gibbons. “Their feedback will be compared to the presidential profile as the committee prepares to review candidate submissions, interview applicants, and identify finalists for campus visits.”
March 14 was the application deadline for best consideration to Myers McRae, the executive search firm. The presidential search committee will determine the pool of candidates to interview on March 31, and conduct first round interviews on April 14-15. Since they will be discussing candidates, this will be a closed meeting, and applicants’ names will remain confidential until finalists are announced.
Once the committee completes interviews, they will meet to determine a final unranked list of candidates. As required by the Board of Governors (BOG) regulations, those names will be submitted to the chair of the BOG for review and approval. Upon approval, the Board of Trustees will announce the finalists, host campus visits with students, faculty, and staff, and conduct interviews. We look forward to this opportunity and will keep you informed as these plans take shape.
Thank you again to Committee Chair Gibbons, the members of the search committee, Myers McRae, and all who are working to ensure a successful presidential search.
Go Rattlers!
Kristin Harper
Chair, Florida A&M University Board of Trustees
