FAMU College of Law in Collaboration with CrossMarc Capital to Examine Downtown Orlando Revitalization at Nov. 5 Panel
Real Estate and Land Use Series brings together perspectives on Downtown Orlando’s future

ORLANDO — Can Downtown Orlando continue to grow, attract investment and remain a vibrant place to live, work and visit?  That question will be at the center of a panel discussion Nov. 5 when Florida A&M University (FAMU) College of Law and CrossMarc Capital present the second installment of their Real Estate and Land Use Series, focusing on “Downtown Orlando Revitalization.”

The event will bring together perspectives from the legal, development and public-planning sectors, providing an opportunity for students, real estate professionals, attorneys, community leaders and others interested in Central Florida's growth to hear directly from professionals involved in shaping the region.

The panel will feature: Jason W. Searl, Maynard Nexsen, a real estate attorney with extensive experience in development, land use and related public and government matters; Andrew Wetzler, Sterling Project Development; and Jason Burton, City of Orlando's planning team.

Maynard Nexsen is sponsoring the event which will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at 201 FAMU Law Lane, Orlando.. Register for the event

The November program follows the September launch of the Real Estate and Land Use Series, which brought together academic and industry perspectives for a discussion of “Developing in Urban Environments: Land Use and Economic Challenges and Opportunities.” LinkedIn

John Crossman, of CrossMarc Capital and a Trustee of Florida A&M University, has been instrumental in bringing the series to FAMU College of Law to connect students with experienced professionals and encourage meaningful discussion. He is a former chair of the College of Law's Dean's Advisory Committee and currently serves as vice chairman of the Orlando Housing Authority.

“We are excited to continue this series with another outstanding panel of people who are directly involved in the legal, development and planning issues that shape our community,” Crossman said. “Downtown Orlando is continuing to evolve, and this is an opportunity to have a conversation about where it’s headed and the challenges and opportunities that come with that growth.”

As the series launches in its inaugural year, it also marks the first year of service for Dean Simone Marstiller at the FAMU College of Law. With a focus on cultivating attorneys who serve their communities and lead with integrity and purpose, Dean Marstiller believes this initiative offers students a valuable opportunity to engage in meaningful dialogue and professional growth.

“As Downtown Orlando continues to evolve, it is important to have thoughtful conversations about how development, land-use decisions, and planning shape the communities where we live and work,” said Marstiller. “At FAMU College of Law, we want our students to understand the legal and policy issues behind those decisions while learning from the professionals who are helping guide the region’s future. This series provides a valuable opportunity for dialogue and highlights the important role attorneys play in supporting Central Florida’s continued growth.”
