Florida A&M University Selected as First Stop on National Google Gemini Campus Tour
Academic Affairs initiative launches Google Workspace campuswide and opens FAMU STEM Week
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida A&M University (FAMU) will serve as the first stop on a national Google Gemini campus tour visiting 35 institutions across the country, bringing interactive demonstrations, student engagement opportunities, and artificial intelligence learning experiences to campus April 1–2 on Paddyfoote Lawn.

The two-day engagement, led by the Division of Academic Affairs, also marks the official kickoff of STEM Week at Florida A&M University and introduces campuswide access to Google Workspace following the event, expanding collaborative digital tools available to support teaching, learning, and academic productivity across the University community.

The Google Gemini campus visit reflects a strategic Academic Affairs initiative designed to strengthen digital readiness and expand opportunities for students to engage with emerging technologies shaping academic environments and the future workforce.

“Serving as the first institution to launch this national campus tour reflects Florida A&M University’s continued commitment to preparing students to engage thoughtfully and confidently with emerging technologies,” said Allyson L. Watson, Ph.D., provost and vice president for Academic Affairs. “Expanding access to Google Workspace across our campus community strengthens collaboration and supports innovation in teaching and learning across disciplines.”

The campus pop-up will take place from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day and will feature product tips, informal demonstrations, snacks and giveaways, and opportunities for students to engage directly with Google representatives about how artificial intelligence tools can support learning, creativity, and productivity.

Students are also invited to complete a brief two-minute survey about their experiences with artificial intelligence. The first 100 students who participate will receive an exclusive Owala bottle while supplies last.

The engagement also highlights the University’s intentional alignment between student success priorities and workforce preparation through partnerships that introduce students to technologies shaping contemporary academic and professional environments.

“This engagement represents a strategic effort to position our students and faculty at the forefront of generative AI tools in higher education,” said Lewis Johnson, Ph.D., associate provost for strategic initiatives.

“Launching Google Workspace with Gemini and NotebookLM for the entire campus community alongside this national tour stop expands opportunities for collaboration, productivity, and innovation while strengthening the University’s technology ecosystem in support of student success.”

Following the campus visit, Google Workspace will become available to students, faculty, and staff University-wide, providing expanded access to tools that support communication, coursework collaboration, and academic engagement.

Students may visit Paddyfoote Lawn anytime between April 1–2 between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to participate in the Google Gemini campus experience and help launch STEM Week at Florida A&M University.
