Florida A&M University Leaders Named ONYX Magazine Men of Honor

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida A&M University Vice President for Student Affairs William E. Hudson Jr., Ph.D. and FAMU Board of Trustees Vice Chair Victor Young have been named ONYX Magazine Men of Honor. 

ONYX Magazine’s Men of Honor is an annual event that celebrates distinguished men whose leadership, service and professional excellence have created a lasting impact in their communities and beyond.

"Being recognized as an ONYX Magazine Men of Honor recipient is a profound reminder that true success is measured not only by personal achievement, but by the lives we uplift, the communities we strengthen, and the legacy we leave through service and leadership," Hudson said. 

Hudson, a Florida native and FAMU alumnus, has served as vice president for Student Affairs since 2011 after initially assuming the role in an interim capacity in 2010. In this role, he provides strategic leadership for programs and services that support student success, overseeing admissions, orientation, financial aid, residence life, campus safety and the University’s Federal TRIO programs.

Prior to joining FAMU’s executive leadership, Hudson served as associate director of Florida State University’s Center for Academic Retention and Enhancement (C.A.R.E.), where he focused on recruitment, academic support, counseling and retention initiatives for students. 

A specialist in minority student recruitment and retention, Hudson has also served as an adjunct professor at both FAMU and FSU and has published research on student success. 

Throughout his career, Hudson has held several state and national higher education leadership roles, including chair of the State of Florida Articulation and Coordinating Committee and past chair of the State University System of Florida Council of Student Affairs. 

He also helped secure millions to support student scholarships, financial assistance and university initiatives. 

Hudson further described his achievement as humbling and motivational. “I share this honor with every mentor, colleague, family member and community partner who has helped shape my journey,” he said.

Like Hudson, Young has built a career grounded in service and leadership.  He is a managing partner of Morgan Auto Group. The company is the ninth-largest automotive dealership group in the United States and the largest dealership group in Florida.

He is also a partner at Digital Caviar, a production company behind theatrical and streaming films, including Lady of the Manor, Bernie the Dolphin and Crazy Lake.

Throughout his career, Young has combined business leadership with community involvement. He founded Sarasota Metropolis FC, a United Soccer League franchise that provided opportunities for aspiring athletes while donating 10 percent of the team's profits to cancer research. 

Through Sarasota Metropolis FC, he has also emphasized mentorship, leadership and character-building among young athletes.

Young has served on numerous civic and nonprofit boards, including the Sarasota Economic Development Corporation, Hancock Whitney Bank Advisory Board, Tampa Bay Academy of Hope, Southeastern Guide Dogs Endowment Fund, Sarasota County Sheriff’s Advisory Board and Sarasota County Film Commission.

He currently serves as vice chair of the Moffitt Medical Group at Moffitt Cancer Center. 

In 2017, Young was recognized as Chief Information Officer of the Year by the Tampa Bay Business Journal for developing the Dream Boss application, an interactive project management platform designed to help users achieve personal and professional goals. 

Hudson and Young’s recognition reflect Florida A&M University’s continued commitment to leadership and service with community impact while celebrating individuals whose influence extends well beyond the campus.
