Gunna Brings Wunna Run Club to FAMU for Walmart Sponsored Homecoming 5K

Fifth annual run and walk pairs community fitness with scholarships for five recipients

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida A&M University is adding star power to its Homecoming stride. Chart-topping rapper Gunna’s Wunna Run Club is partnering with FAMU for the fifth annual Walmart-sponsored Homecoming 5K Run/Walk on Thursday, Oct. 22, at Bragg Memorial Stadium, bringing together music, movement and a commitment to giving back.

The run/walk has drawn hundreds of participants and become a tradition within FAMU’s annual Homecoming celebration. Building on that foundation, this year’s event welcomes Wunna Run Club for a special collaboration expected to introduce new runners to the race and add to the excitement for returning participants.

“What has made this sponsorship so meaningful is that it's never been about just sponsoring a race—it's about showing up consistently for a community we genuinely value. Over the past five years, we've built this collaboration on shared beliefs: that health should be accessible, wellness should be celebrated, and trusted relationships are created through action, not words,” said Regine Moore, director of Constituent Relations, Corporate Affairs for Walmart.

Moore said returning year after year strengthens that trust, demonstrating Walmart’s commitment to improving health outcomes, expanding access to wellness resources and investing in the communities it serves.

“That's what this sponsorship represents to us. It’s one grounded in shared purpose, and we're proud to continue building on that foundation together,” she said.

This year, the initiative also includes an investment in FAMU students. Walmart and Wunna Run Club will award $10,000 in scholarships to five students pursuing majors with a health-related component. Each recipient will receive $2,000 to support their education.

Gunna launched Wunna Run with an inaugural 5K in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park, where more than 1,000 runners of varying skill levels joined the Atlanta-born artist. The gathering brought his personal commitment to fitness into a shared experience, demonstrating how an artist’s connection with fans can extend beyond a stage, playlist or concert venue.

That emphasis on a healthy lifestyle complements the foundation Walmart has helped build through years of supporting FAMU’s Homecoming 5K.

FAMU’s 2026 Homecoming celebration runs Oct. 18-25 under the theme “There’s No Place Like the Hill,” bringing students, alumni, faculty, staff and supporters together for a week of Rattler pride, beloved traditions and new memories.

Keep the celebration moving at FAMU’s annual 5K Run/Walk sponsored by Walmart, featuring a special collaboration with Wunna Run Club. It’s an opportunity to connect with the FAMU community while making wellness part of your Homecoming experience. Advance registration is required and closes at noon Tuesday, Oct. 20.
